So far, India has been interesting is probably the best word. It’s so different from home! There are so many people and so much going on all the time. The traffic is horrible. We are staying about 3 miles from our office and it takes nearly 20 minutes to get there, just because of the traffic. They do not really have traffic lights, just officials directing traffic. The officials blow their whistle when it’s your turn to go. Also the traffic goes in all different directions. In one intersection there could be as many as 7 directions of traffic. There is also so much trash and pollution! You almost feel like you want to take a shower after being outside for a few minutes. What I am describing is, of course, only most of Mumbai. There are a few parts where it is clean and somewhat green with vegetation. By few, I mean I have only seen one part of Mumbai that is almost as clean as maybe New York...?
Yesterday was a nice refreshing day. For a Sunday away from family, it turned out pretty good. We went to church, which is about an hour away from our hotel, and met the members of the local branch. There were about 35 people at church, about half were Americans who are in Mumbai for work. We happen to know a couple here, they are the in-laws to one of Dave's mission companions. They invited us over for dinner, which was absolutely amazing! She made us mashed potatoes, gravy, and chicken and ice cream for dessert! Oh, and they had COLD juice for us to drink (Most drinks here are warm, if not HOT). It was so nice to have something that reminded us of home. It was also nice to talk to someone with an American accent versus an Indian accent. Sunday was great! Probably the best day so far.
